Operators¶
The Layer Editor in Black Ink uses a nodal system, providing both non-destructive functionality and considerable flexibility for creations.
To compose an image, various operators are available and organized into six families: Output, Source, Adjustment, Mix, Effects, and Transformation.
Here is a list of the operators available in Black Ink:
Operator | Description |
---|---|
OUTPUT | These operators allow finalizing a step or a drawing. |
Output image | Generates the final image of the drawing and cannot be connected to another node afterward. |
SOURCE | These operators are the initial input data used in the creative process. |
Color | Fills the canvas with an adjustable color that extends to your drawing area. |
Layer Grayscale | An opaque grayscale layer that extends based on the drawing. |
Layer | Draw freely on a layer, covering it or leaving areas transparent. |
MIX | These operators blend multiple inputs together. |
Blend | Overlays a foreground and background. |
Layer Stack | Stacks multiple layers with different blending modes to compose your drawing. |
Mask | Uses a source image to create another with transparencies, preserving the original. |
TRANSFORM | These operators enable moving, rotating, scaling, repeating, cycling a source, etc. |
Domain Wrap | Enables the drawing to fold back on itself. |
Symmetry | Allows drawing with an adjustable symmetry axis without being destructive. |
Radial symmetry | The symmetry operator allows for drawing with multiple radial symmetry axes. |
Tiling | Duplicates a drawing as a pattern and defines the spacing between each repetition. |
Transform | Moves, rotates, distorts, and resizes an image. |
ADJUSTMENT | These operators adjust the visual properties of your drawing. |
Brightness & Contrast | Adjusts the brightness and contrast of the image. |
Color Channel | Adjusts individual color channels. |
Color overlay | Applies a color overlay to the image. |
Color posterization | Reduces the number of colors in the image, creating a posterized effect. |
Color select | Selects and isolates specific colors. |
Gradient map | Maps the colors of an image to a gradient. |
